The Palisades...thousands of years ago these cliffs were formed by lava flowing
out of the earth. In 1900, a park was created near them and they became
protected. Around 1950, the Palisades Interstate Parkway was built, and that's
where I went riding today (Sept 2, 2001). nycroads.com has a good

the parkway and its creation.
